# Formatting text

## Learn how to format assessment instructions, including fonts, font sizes and line spacing.

Formatting in Cadmus is designed to feel a lot lighter than other text editors. There are no [pages](https://support.cadmus.io/students/pages-in-cadmus?hsLang=en), and formatting options are available to help students focus on their content while giving them the functionality they need to structure and format their writing effectively.

Teachers and students have access to the same formatting options through the **Formatting Toolbar**. You’ll only see the toolbar in the Teacher Environment when editing the assignment instructions.

From the **Formatting Toolbar** you can:

- Create titles, headings and block quotes using the text style dropdown
- [Change the font and font size](https://support.cadmus.io/teachers/formatting-text#changingfontsandspacing)
- [Adjust line spacing](https://support.cadmus.io/teachers/formatting-text#changinglinespacing)
- Bold, italicise, underline and strikethrough text
- Superscript and subscript
- Align text
- Create numbered, bulleted and checklists
- Indent text
- Highlight text and change font colours

- [Add links](https://support.cadmus.io/teachers/adding-links?hsLang=en)
- [Add tables](https://support.cadmus.io/teachers/adding-tables?hsLang=en)
- [Add code](https://support.cadmus.io/teachers/adding-code?hsLang=en)
- Undo and redo

You can also use [keyboard shortcuts](https://support.cadmus.io/students/keyboard-shortcuts?hsLang=en) to quickly access formatting options.

### Changing fonts and spacing

You can change the font, font size, and line spacing of your text from the **Formatting Toolbar**.

#### Changing the font

Select the text you’d like to format, then use the **Font** control in the Formatting Toolbar.

You can choose from:

- Times New Roman
- Arial
- Calibri
- Georgia

#### Changing the font size

Select the text you’d like to format, then use the **Font size** control. You can choose from 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, or 24 pt.

#### Changing line spacing

Select the text you’d like to format, then use the **Line spacing** control.

You can choose from:

- 1
- 1.15
- 1.5 (Default)
- 2

Select **2** for double-spaced text.

The selected font, font size, and line spacing will be reflected in the Instructions.
