Releasing Grades and Feedback

Learn how to release grades and feedback to students, depending on the marking tool used for the assessment.

The way grades and feedback are released depends on the marking tool selected for your assessment.

  • Cadmus Marker. You can release grades and feedback from the Moderation tab after marking is complete. You can choose to release provisional or final feedback, release feedback immediately or schedule it for later, and control what students can see.
  • Turnitin Feedback Studio. Grades and feedback become available based on the Feedback Return Date set in Cadmus. You can also manage grade visibility through your LMS.
  • Canvas SpeedGrader. Please refer to the Marking with Canvas SpeedGrader article for the release process.

Using Cadmus Marker

Grades and feedback are released through the Moderation tab once marking, or any mark adjustments have been completed.

Depending on your workflow, you can:

  • Release Provisional Feedback for students to review before finalising grades.
  • Release Final Feedback to publish grades and feedback.
  • Release feedback immediately or schedule it for a later date.
  • Control whether students can see marks, comments, or both.

NOTE: Group Assessments follow a slightly different feedback release process. Please refer to Releasing Feedback for Group Assessments for step-by-step guidance.

Using Turnitin Feedback Studio

Students can access their grades and feedback once the Feedback Return Date has passed.

You can also:

Once the grades and feedback have been released, students can access their grades and feedback through Cadmus. When they access their Cadmus assessment after the return date, they’ll be directed to the selected marking tool to view their submission along with any feedback they’ve received.

Grades will also show in the Learning Management System (LMS) Grade Centre.

Changing the return date

When you set up a Cadmus assessment, you’ll have to specify a return date for feedback. You can always adjust this date depending on how you and your teaching team progress with marking.

To change the return date

  1. From the Instructions page, click Edit instructions.
  2. Click Set requirements and grading options to open the Requirements page.
  3. In the Assignment Key Dates section, click on the date under Feedback Return Date.

  4. Select the new date on which you'd like to return grades.
  5. Click Confirm dates.
  6. Click Confirm changes.
  7. Click Release in the top-right corner.
  8. Click Release to students now on the confirmation page.

Managing grade centre settings

While you’re marking, we’d recommend hiding the grade centre column for your Cadmus assessment from students.

Hiding the grade centre column prevents students from viewing individual marks before grading is completed for the whole class. Once marking is complete and you’re ready to release marks, it’s easy to unhide the column.

To hide/unhide a grade centre column from students

  1. In your LMS subject page, click Grade Centre → Full Grade Centre in the left-hand side menu.
  2. Find the column you would like to hide/unhide.
  3. Click the  more options icon next to the column name to open the dropdown menu.
  4. Select Hide from students (on/off) to toggle hiding the column from students on or off.

Additional step for Blackboard Ultra: Syncing grades after feedback release

In Blackboard Ultra, grades need to be manually synced from Cadmus. This step ensures that updated marks flow correctly into the Ultra Gradebook.

Why this matters:
When the Ultra Gradebook column is hidden, the Cadmus link is also hidden. This prevents automatic grade updates, so a manual sync is required.

To sync grades:

  1. Open the Cadmus assessment.

  2. Click Sync LMS.

  3. Select Sync grades.
