# Accessibility in Cadmus

## Learn about the accessibility features supported by Cadmus and how to use them to make your writing and assessment experience easier and more accessible.

Cadmus supports accessibility features built into Windows and Apple operating systems, helping students access and complete their assessments in ways that suit their individual needs.

- Speech-to-text (Dictation)
- Text-to-speech
- Read Aloud Extension
- Magnification
- Colour inversion and Contrast

Below are some examples of how you can use these accessibility features in Cadmus, along with short video demonstrations.

*While the videos demonstrate accessibility tools on **Mac**, students using Windows can also access similar features through their device's accessibility settings.*

#### Speech-to-Text (Dictation)

You can use the built-in dictation tools on their devices to convert spoken words into written text directly in the Cadmus editor.

For Mac:

1. Open System Settings \> Keyboard \> Dictation.
2. Turn Dictation on and select Enable if prompted.
3. Use the keyboard shortcut shown in the settings to start dictating in Cadmus.

For Windows:

1. Press Windows logo key + H to open voice typing.
2. Follow the prompts to set up the microphone if needed.
3. Use the same shortcut to start voice typing in Cadmus.

#### Text-to-Speech

You can use the text-to-speech features available on their devices to have written content read aloud.

This may be helpful if you prefer listening to written information or need additional reading support.

#### Read Aloud Extension

You may also use compatible browser extensions, such as Read Aloud, to listen to written content.

This provides another option if you prefer audio support when reading assessment instructions or reviewing written material.

#### Screen Magnification

You can use your device's built-in magnification or zoom features to make text and other content easier to see.

These settings can be adjusted depending on individual preferences and accessibility needs.

#### Colour Inversion and Contrast

You can adjust your device's display settings to make content easier to see and read.

- Colour inversion reverses the colours displayed on the screen.
- Colour contrast helps make text and other visual elements easier to distinguish from their backgrounds.

These features can be adjusted through the accessibility settings on your devices.
