- Generating Student Acknowledgement records
- Accessing Generative AI related insights
Setting AI-use controls
Teachers can now choose how students use Generative AI tools and technologies in exams or assignments. To set AI use controls:
- While you're in Edit mode on the Instructions page, click Set Requirements, Grading options, and Settings.
- Navigate to the Generative AI heading, and choose between the options to permit students to either use or not use Generative AI tools.
- When Generative AI use is permitted, you may optionally add explicit guidelines for appropriate usage by clicking the Additional Instructions button.
- This opens a modal where you may write or paste in guidelines or specific instructions pertaining to AI usage for the assessment. Any instructions you add are autosaved.

NOTE: By default, the Generative AI requirement is set to ‘Students cannot use Generative AI tools and technologies in this assessment task’.
Generating Student Acknowledgement records
The additional instructions you added appear in a modal to the students as soon as they start working on Cadmus. They could acknowledge reading the instructions by checking an acceptance box and clicking Confirm. They may, however, choose to close the modal and start working.
When students submit their work, in addition to the Academic Integrity Agreement, they will also see a notice asking them to accept a Generative AI Agreement. The Generative AI Agreement can be accepted by the student after reading the university guidelines and any additional instructions that you may have added.
Students will be able to access Guidelines, regarding the use of Generative AI, based on their university’s policy and Additional Instructions, that you may have added while setting up the assessment, by clicking on the links in the Generative AI Agreement. These are also available in the Student Environment under Requirements in the Instructions panel. The additional instructions can be read and accepted whenever a student clicks on the link.
The Cadmus Manual also links directly to the university's website about their Generative AI and Academic Integrity policy.

NOTE: Students will be shown the Generative AI agreement irrespective of the AI-use control choice the teacher has made.
