# Releasing assessments
When you release your assessment, the instructions are made available to students in the [Cadmus Student Environment](https://support.cadmus.io/teachers/intro-to-the-cadmus-student-environment?hsLang=en). If you're releasing an Exam, your instructions will be scheduled by default and only visible to students at the start of the exam.
With Cadmus Assignments, you can:
- [Release instructions immediately](https://support.cadmus.io/teachers/releasing-assessment#release-instructions-immediately)
- [Schedule a time to release the instructions](https://support.cadmus.io/teachers/releasing-assessment#scheduled-instruction-release)
**NOTE**: If you would like to control when students see the [Cadmus link](https://support.cadmus.io/teachers/setting-up-a-cadmus-assignment-link-in-the-lms?hsLang=en), you will need to set the link visibility in your LMS.
### Release instructions immediately
Once you have finished writing your instructions, you can make them available to students.
**To release your assessment**
1. Click the **Release** button in the top-right corner.

2. Review the preview of your assessment instructions.
3. Confirm by clicking **Release to students now** on the right-hand-side panel.
You will see confirmation of your currently released instructions on the *Instructions* page. You can always review the instructions you have set by clicking **View**, or [update the instructions](https://support.cadmus.io/teachers/updating-assessment?hsLang=en) at any time.
### Schedule a time to release the instructions
If you'd like your instructions to be released to students at a later date, you can set a scheduled release. This will make the instructions available to students at a specified date and time.
**To set a scheduled release**
1. Click the **Release** button in the top-right corner.

2. Review the preview of your assignment instructions.
3. Click **Schedule for later** from the right-hand-side panel.
4. Select the *date* and *time* at which you would like the instructions to be available to students.
5. Click **Confirm scheduled release**.
Once you have set a scheduled release, you will return to the *Instructions* page, where you can find confirmation of your release. You can always review the instructions you have set by clicking **View**.
**Note**: If you update and re-release an assessment while a scheduled release is still active, the scheduled release will still use the version that was saved when it was originally set. When that scheduled release takes effect, the earlier version of the instructions may appear again.
If you need to update an assessment after setting a scheduled release, first select Cancel scheduled release, make your changes, then set a new scheduled release if needed.
**To change a scheduled release**
1. From the Instructions page, click **Cancel scheduled release** and confirm.
2. Your scheduled release will become unreleased Instructions. Click **Continue Editing** to make any changes.
3. Click the **Release** button in the top-right corner.
4. Review the preview of your assessment instructions.
5. Click **Schedule for later** from the right-hand-side panel.
6. Select the updated *date* and *time* at which you would like the instructions to be available to students.
7. Click **Confirm scheduled release**.
