[Setting up assessments](https://support.cadmus.io/teachers?hsLang=en#setting-up-assessments) # Footnoting in Assessments ## Learn how to enable footnotes in assessments and view footnotes in student submissions. ### **Enabling footnotes** To enable students to add footnotes for in-text citations, [**choose an appropriate referencing style**](https://support.cadmus.io/setting-requirements-canvas?hsLang=en#referencing:~:text=the%20word%20count.-,Referencing,Cadmus%20Manual%20to%20help%20them%20follow%20the%20referencing%20style%20you%20choose.,-Was%20this%20article) that allows footnoting. Currently, Cadmus supports the following reference styles with footnotes: - AGLC - Chicago - Notes and Bibliography - MHRA - OSCOLA Students will only have the option to insert footnotes if one of these referencing styles is selected.   ![image-png-Jul-12-2024-07-45-19-5473-AM 1](https://support.cadmus.io/hs-fs/hubfs/image-png-Jul-12-2024-07-45-19-5473-AM%201.png?width=384&height=319&name=image-png-Jul-12-2024-07-45-19-5473-AM%201.png) ### **Viewing footnotes** **In Cadmus Marker** To quickly review the footnotes, open the **Footnotes tab** in the right-hand sidebar. There will be a footnote separator line between the body of the assessment and the footnotes. ![image 2](https://support.cadmus.io/hs-fs/hubfs/image%202.png?width=602&height=154&name=image%202.png)   **NOTE**: Updating the referencing style in the assignment settings to one that doesn't support footnoting will not automatically remove footnotes from students’ work.
