Learn how to let footnotes be included in the word counts in students’ works.
Teachers can now choose whether or not to include footnotes in the word count for assessments and exams. Here’s how this can be done:
1. Go to the Settings and Requirements section under the Instructions tab.
- Scroll down to find the Word Limit setting. Click the toggle next to Word limit to specify a word limit for students.
- Under More options, there is an option to ‘Include references in the word limit’ and ‘Include footnotes in the word limit’.
- When the Include footnotes in the word limit option is unchecked (default setting), footnotes will not count toward the submission’s word limit. To include footnotes in the word limit, check this option.
Note that the activity report for the student will now display the word count from footnotes, clearly distinguishing the words in the body versus words in the footnotes.
