# How to View Your Version History in Cadmus

## Learn how to access your saved versions, review previous drafts, and replay your writing history in Cadmus.

Cadmus automatically saves your work as you write. With Version History, you can look back at previous versions of your work and see how your writing has changed over time.

This can be helpful if you'd like to review an earlier draft, find something you previously wrote, or see the progress you've made throughout your assessment.

### **How to access Version History**

1. Open your assessment in Cadmus.
2. In the Cadmus Workspace, locate the Version History icon in the *Formatting toolbar* at the top of the editor.
3. Click the icon to open the *Version History panel* on the right-hand side of your screen.

4. You'll see a list of your saved versions, grouped by date, with the most recent date at the top.

### How to view a previous version

1. In the *Version History panel*, click a date to expand the list of saved versions from that day.
2. Select the version you'd like to review.
3. Cadmus will display your work as it appeared at that point in time.
4. You can select another version to see how your writing has changed.

Only one date can be expanded at a time, helping you navigate your saved versions more easily.

### How to use the timeline

When viewing your Version History, you'll also see a timeline at the bottom of the editor.

You can use the timeline to:

- Move between versions: Use the navigation arrows to move forwards or backwards through your writing history.
- Jump to the beginning or end: Use the double-arrow buttons to quickly navigate to the earliest or latest version.
- Review specific points: Drag the slider or click along the timeline to see how your work looked at different points.

You can also select a saved version from the Version History panel on the right to jump directly to that version.

### Can I edit or restore a previous version?

Version History is currently read-only. This means you can review your previous work, but you cannot make changes directly to an earlier version.

While there isn't a button to restore a previous version just yet, you can still recover content from an earlier draft by following these steps:

1. Open the *Version History* panel and select the version you'd like to review.
2. Highlight the text you'd like to restore.
3. Copy the selected text.
4. Close the Version History panel to return to your current, editable document.
5. Paste the copied text into your document.

This way, you can bring back any content from your earlier drafts and continue working on your assessment.

### Version History for group assessments

If you're working on a group assessment, Version History also allows you to review how your group's work has developed.

When viewing the timelines, your own writing contributions are highlighted, helping you identify the sections you've worked on.

### Why can't I see Version History?

Version History is currently available for assessments that include a standard writing area.

If your assessment uses another format, such as a quiz-style assessment without a writing area, the Version History option may not appear.
