Group assessments in Cadmus have a peer and self-evaluation feature, if enabled by the teacher. In peer evaluation, students from a group anonymously rate and give comments on their peers’ contributions to the group work according to the instructions and rubric/marking criteria provided by the teacher. In self-evaluation, students must rate themselves and their contributions using the same rubric.
In this article, we will learn how to do peer and self-evaluation:
- Start by navigating to the Peer Assessment tab in the student environment.
- Click on the Start Peer Assessment button.
- This will take you to the Peer Assessment panel. Here you will find the Instructions tab, where you will find teacher guidelines on how to mark peers, the peer assessment due date, and the weighting for the peer assessment.
- Click on the Go to Evaluation button to begin marking. This will take you to the Evaluation tab.
- The Evaluation tab displays an evaluation matrix containing your name in the rows and the marking criteria from the rubric as columns. You can select a rating for each marking criterion according to your contribution to complete the self-evaluation.
- Next, select other group members from a dropdown menu that has options to ‘Select All’ or ‘Clear All’. Once you have selected group members, they will appear in the students row in the evaluation matrix. Grade your group members by rating them across each marking criterion as per their contribution to complete the peer evaluation.
- Below the evaluation matrix, you will find the Comments section. You can use this space to leave anonymous comments for peers.
- If you wish to reset your ratings for your peers or yourself, click the Clear All button at the top right to reset the evaluation matrix.
- After finishing the peer evaluation, self-evaluation, and adding comments, click the Done button at the top right of the panel.
- You will return to the Peer Assessment tab, which will indicate zero evaluations pending. Here, you can click on the Edit Ratings and Feedback button to change your grades for peer or self-evaluation.
- Once the grades are locked in, click on the Finalize and Submit button to record your peer and self-evaluations. A message will appear saying ‘Your evaluations have been submitted successfully.
NOTE: Clicking the Clear All button would only remove the grades from the evaluation matrix. The comments would have to be manually deleted or edited by clicking on the comments box.
