Learn how to use the Group Charter in Cadmus Group Assessments
A Group Charter is a collaboratively written document created at the start of a project or assignment. It can be used both as a planning tool and a learning tool. It acts as an agreement between group members that defines how they will work together, their shared goals, and how they will handle responsibilities and challenges.
It would help groups to work more effectively together and provide structure, fairness, and accountability, making the group assessment a more positive and authentic learning experience.
If the Group Charter setting is enabled for your group assessment, you will see a Group Charter section under the Preparation tab. You can create, view, or edit the group charter after the group formation is finalised.
To access the charter:
- Under the Preparation tab, click on the + Create Charter button. You will see a ‘Not Yet Started’ message in the Group Charter section in the Preparation tab.
- In the Group Charter panel, you will find the Charter Overview at the top. This section may contain the purpose of the charter, collaboration expectations, key deliverables or other important information, depending on what your teacher has added.
- Under the Charter Overview, you will find the Timelines and Milestones section. This section may contain project-related milestones along with their descriptions and due dates. You can add a milestone by clicking on the + Add Another Milestone button and adding the due date, milestone, and description. Use the bin icon on the right to delete a milestone.
- Under the Timelines and Milestones section, you will find certain Read-only or Text input sections. If your teacher has added a read-only section, you can read through it get a better understanding of the teacher’s expectations. If your teacher has added a text-input section, you will need to type your inputs collaboratively in the text box.
- Once you have added milestones and added your inputs, you can finalise the charter by clicking the Accept Charter button in the top right. After you accept the group charter, the Group Charter section in the Preparation tab would indicate an ‘Accepted’ message, and you can start working on the group project. If the charter is not accepted, the section would indicate a ‘Not Yet Accepted’ message.
NOTE: 1) To know more about Group charters and tips for creating an effective one, click on the Tips for creating Group Charter link in the Group Charter section.
2) The Group Charter has to be accepted by each of the individual group members, indicating that they are aligned on the overall working plan and have signed off on it. Without accepting the Group Charter, a student cannot begin working on the Group Assessment itself.
