Collaborative Writing for Group Projects

Learn how to work on Group projects or reports collaboratively

Once group members accept the group charter, you can begin working on your group project. For the group project, all students in a group can work in a collaborative environment where they can work together in real-time and use comments to coordinate on the report.

NOTE: Collaborative writing environment is only available for group projects. Students must work independently on individual projects.

How to use the Collaborative Writing feature?

  1. Once the instructions for the group project are released, they can be found under the Instructions section in the Preparation tab in your working environment. Click on the View Instructions button to view the group report instructions.
  2. After viewing the instructions, click on the Writing tab and click on the Continue Working button to access the working area for the group report. The working area has a similar interface to classic Cadmus. The taskbar at the top contains editing options.

  3. Once you start working, you will be able to view other group members' cursors, indicated by a shortened version of their name. As with Classic Cadmus, content can also be typed or pasted into the working area, with paste chips appearing for more than 30 words.

  4. While working collaboratively, commenting functionalities are available for each group member. To start a comment thread, select the text and click the Comment Thread icon in the taskbar, which will open up a comments section to the right of the working area.

  5. Add any notes relevant to any particular member’s contribution to the group project in the comment box. You and your group members can reply to any comments, advancing the conversation.

  6. Comments related to a section of the text can be found by clicking on the particular comment box or vice versa. Deleting a section of the text from the work area that has a related comment would also delete that thread automatically.
  7. Clicking on the three dots on any comment box gives you two options - Mark as Resolved and Delete Thread. Once the conversation about a particular section doesn’t need further discussion, you or your group members can resolve that thread. Use the Delete Thread option to remove a thread.
  8. There is an option to filter between open and resolved comments using the dropdown at the top of the comment section.

  9. After completing the writing and resolving all comments, students can submit the project. To submit, click on Review to Submit and then Submit your work as Final.

NOTE: Individual Projects can be submitted as Classic Cadmus assignments. You can click on Continue Editing under the Individual Project in the Writing tab to start working and submit your work.
